Exploiting interfacial polymerization to fabricate hyper-cross-linked nanofiltration membrane with a constituent linear aliphatic amine for freshwater production

Abstract Humanity is facing a global challenge of dwindling water resources and the situation intensifying due to growing population leading excessive pollution. Nanofiltration an important membrane-based technology for production clean potable domestic industrial setups. Hyper-cross-linked polyamide thin film composite nanofiltration (HCPA-TFC-NF) membranes have been fabricated by using multifunctional amine 1 (possessing two primary -NH 2 secondary groups) bifunctional terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) through interfacial polymerization. The structure hyper-cross-linked network has successfully confirmed solid (CP-MAS) 13 C NMR, XPS, AFM, FT-IR, elemental mapping, EDX analysis. membrane features such as surface morphology hydrophilicity established FE-SEM contact angle measurements. analysis revealed formation uniform active layer on PS/PET support, pore was tuned studying effect curing temperature time. efficiently rejected series divalent salts including MgCl , CaCl Na SO 4 MgSO 4, NaCl cross-flow filtration setup. Based performance, best conditions fabrication were found be 80 °C with time h. highest salt rejection observed in case reaching value 98.11% HCPA-TFC-NF@M3 it 97.45% HCPA-TFC-NF@M2 while reduced 94.59% HCPA-TFC-NF@M1. showed 87.36%. hydrofluoric acid treatment HCPA-TFC-NF-M2 increased flux keeping high. >99% EBT permeate 75 LMH.
